Members of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Occupational Safety and Health (Sub Committee on Asbestos) chaired by MP for Barnsley West and Penistone, Michael Clapham, have promised to help mesothelioma sufferers by putting pressure on the Government to change the law on asbestos compensation.
The group of MPs made the promise after watching a hard-hitting film from the North East Mesothelioma Self Help Group. The film, which has been posted on YouTube, exposes the apparent unfairness in the system which awards compensation to families who have lost a relative to mesothelioma, the aggressive lung cancer almost always caused by exposure to asbestos.
The group is backed by the Thompson Solicitors campaign, Justice For Asbestos Families who working to highlight the fact that many families in England and Wales receive far less than bereaved families in Scotland.
