This rare material, prized for it's qualities of purity and elegance, is the basis for the tradition of beauty cultivated and brought to perfection by Lladró today. Considered to be the finest porcelain art from the second half of the 20th centaury to nowadays, the works of Lladró are reflections of a unique artistic vision. Lladró's singular language of form and colour expands upon the virtues of the porcelain art from pas ages to express themes and feelings relevant to the contemporary individual.
A dream come true
Heirs to the ancient tradition of porcelain, Lladró has managed to make it's own, bringing closer to the general public an art which had previously only been within the reach of an elite. They have never forgotten that theirs is a family company. That their work -after all, that is what art is for an artist- constitutes their means of expression. That only through an entirely handmade process and ongoing innovation, have they been able to create and consolidate the personal style identifying their work. For the Lladró brothers, porcelain, born in the east and later reinvented in Europe, is made of the same material from which dreams are forged. In 1953, the Lladró brothers left their work in a tile factory and built a small Moorish kiln in the backyard of their family home in Almàssera, a small town near the Spanish city of Valencia, and this was where their adventure began. The city of Porcelain now stands today very near to where they set up their initial workshop. Over two thousand people work there on creations exported to more than one -hundred countries.
When ideas take form
Lladró porcelain is made following a meticulous process starting with the design of the original model by sculptors and ending with the firing of the piece at high temperatures in the kiln. Between the initial sketch and the definitive test by fire, each piece passes several phases. Artisans put the pieces together from dozens of individual fragments; apply the colours, glazes and varnishes.
One of the key factors in this process lies in the highest artistic and technical quality achieved in each one of the phases. Throughout the creative process each piece is submitted to several controls to ensure perfection. Quality is an essential factor in the company culture, whose commitment is to guarantee owners of a "Lladró" that their piece has been created with the utmost care down the smallest detail. And so that owners can continue to enjoy their acquisitions for many years to come, Lladró provides purchasers of their creations with a free insurance policy against adverse incidents, the Lladró Assurance Program.
