The medical profession usually provide a caring service with a high standard of excellence. However there are occasions when patients treated on the NHS or privately may be the victim of a medical accident. When that accident is attributable to incompetence or lack of care, it may be possible to bring a claim for clinical negligence compensation.

Tragically, Richard Fry was only diagnosed correctly six weeks before he died of bowel cancer. The Salford Royal NHS Trust has agreed an out of court settlement with Mrs Fry after admitting it was negligent in failing to diagnose the disease earlier.

Mr Fry started suffering from stomach cramps in 2001 but his illness was dismissed by his doctor as being all in his head. He subsequently had numerous tests which also failed to find anything wrong. It wasn't until early 2003 that Mr Fry was finally correctly diagnosed following an emergency operation.

The Trust has since issued an apology to Mrs Fry.
